Kumar Abhirup will talk about Headless WordPress with React

Meet our next speaker for WordCamp Kochi 2019, Kumar Abhirup

Kumar is a 16-year-old JavaScript React Developer who builds cool projects since 2018. He’s specialized in building full-stack applications that use React in frontend and GraphQL in the backend.

Kumar will be speaking at WordCamp Kochi on the topic – Headless WordPress with React

Headless WordPress means using WordPress only for its backend and building the frontend in any other framework/language that can fetch JSON Response that WordPress spits out.

In his session, Kumar will be looking to cover how WordPress can be used as a headless CMS and how to pair it with React on the frontend with some tips about the best deployment and git workflow. He’ll also explain why splitting frontend and backend can be a good idea, along with some examples from many gists and GitHub boilerplate code to start playing with WordPress REST API with React Hooks.

Excited to announce our next speaker for WordCamp Kochi – Menaka S

Currently working at Automattic’s WooCommerce division as Code Wrangler, she started developing software 22 years back and has been intermittently working on research projects and as a developer, during this time. Menaka has a PhD in Natural Language Processing, and enjoys all aspects of working with software – including development, testing and support.

She has been working with WordPress for the past 7 years, of which the last 2 years have been in WooCommerce.

Meet Sathish Kumar our next speaker at WordCamp Kochi 2019

Sathish is a Senior Accessibility Consultant working at Deque Software, Hyderabad. He’s a passionate accessibility evangelist spreading awareness of inclusivity and accessibility across the globe.

His session on WordCamp Kochi will focus on the topic – Anatomy of Accessible forms

Forms are the gateway to collect user data. If they are not accessible or usable to many, then users would leave our sites. Sathish will discuss further about the need for accessible forms, and about users that are affected by such forms. Additionally, Satish will also talk in detail about the appendages of accessible forms, as well as accessibility in WordPress, overall.

In his free time, you’ll find Sathish reading, writing, blogging, listening to music, and beat-boxing. He’s an author and editor at digitala11y.com, a blog dedicated to imparting knowledge on digital accessibility.

Imran Sayed will conduct a WorkShop on Building a WordPress Site in React

One of our highlights with WordCamp Kochi 2019 is that we have a set of exciting hands-on workshops this year. We are super-stoked to announce our first workshop for WordCamp Kochi 2019 – by none other than Imran Sayed!

Imran is a Web Engineer at rtCamp. He is also a WordCamp Speaker, Meetup Organizer, and a regular contributor to the open-source community. He possesses a rich experience in GraphQL, Node, React and Laravel.

He is also the author of the popular Twenty Nineteen WordPress theme ported over to Frontity in React. Apart from this, Imran has a great passion for teaching and sharing knowledge. You can check out his YouTube channel, where he teaches Programming. As a hobby, Imran likes to write on Medium, and has a passion for photography.

Imran will be taking a workshop on – Building a WordPress Site in React in 30 Min – with Frontity

As per Google trends, there has been a rise in the popularity of Headless CMS. On a parallel note, JavaScript is on the top place amongst different programming, scripting, and markup languages.

There are often moments when we all want to have is a simple, fast and performant blogging website with modern frameworks. However, we tend to give up because of the learning curve.

Do we need to have a core technical knowledge to build a simple yet modern WordPress website? Nowadays, there are free open source frameworks based in JavaScript like Frontity which can help us build a headless WordPress site using React, even if we are not very familiar with this JavaScript library.

Imran will be taking an hour-long workshop on the same to help build a WordPress website in React within 30 mins. Which you can benefit from features like Server Side Rendering, 100% Lighthouse score, or code splitting.
